ABOUT OUR CAMP AND ABOUT DENNIS
The Dennis Wirgowski Memorial Football Camp for Kids was created by Beth Wirgowski to give back to the community that Dennis loved. The Program aims to teach young football players valuable skills to be used on and off the football field, with a focus on the mental well-being of today's young athletes. The Camp is a one-day FREE Event for kids from 4th to 8th Grade, led by former Professional Football Players and area coaches.
ABOUT DENNIS
Dennis Wirgowski had deep roots in Bay City and spent his entire life in the Bay City area. Dennis was an outstanding athlete in many sports but excelled at the sport that he loved the most - Football. Dennis was named a Parade Magazine High School All-American football player in 1965 and was selected to be the captain of this prestigious group.
Dennis led his Bay City Central High School team to a Class A State Championship in 1965 with a 9-0 record. As a result, he received scholarship offers from several of the top universities in the country to play football before deciding to take his talents to Purdue University. He went on to play on a Purdue squad that finished 8-2 for each of his three seasons there. Dennis was drafted in the 9th round of the 1970 NFL draft and went on to have a five-year career in the NFL. He then would return to his native Bay City where he would live until his passing in early 2014.

This camp would not have been possible without the help of Nancy Powers (1954-2019). Her hard work and dedication will be forever appreciated and missed. May she rest in peace.
